Day Fifteen- Seek Beautiful Words

Words are important to me. I give them careful consideration. I mull them over, looking for just the right one to fully express my purest intention. I appreciate a beautiful or clever turn of phrase. I make note of words that inspire me or challenge me, writing them in my journal so I don't lose them.

Words are valuable.

I especially enjoy poetry. My father deserves all of the credit. He loved words, too, and had committed countless poems to memory. No matter what the occasion, he had just the right one. In his latter years, he wrote many beautiful poems. He really is the one who taught me to seek beautiful words.

In honor of him and the wisdom he shared with me, here is one of his poems about autumn.

The Flaming Tree

The day was overcast and gloomy.
I thought, there is no chance for pleasure.
I trudged along the frosty sidewalk,
With caution each step was measured.

I turned my head to look behind me
And chanced to see the clouds had parted.
A shaft of light brightly reflected
Its brilliant rays from the leaves of the tree.

As I walked with eyes both riveted,
My soul was filled with wonder,
At the marvelous glow the tree reflected.
The brilliant light dispelled the awful gloom.

My labored steps became lightened.
My hopes for the day were brightened.
Stirred with delight- my soul no longer affrighted,
Sustained by the joy reflected from the soul of the flaming tree.

-Richard L. Snow

As you explore new ways to embrace your life, try seeking out some beautiful words. You just might find some much-needed nourishment for your soul.
